| McCain Inc. Introduces the Energy Efficient 332L Controller Cabinet |
|
The first 332L cabinet to be approved on the Caltrans QPL list. VISTA, California, October 5, 2009 – McCain Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of traffic, parking and transit management solutions, today announced the approval of the energy efficient 332L Controller Cabinet. The approval was received on September 3rd from Herasmo Iniguez, Senior Electrical Engineer, P.E., Office of ITS Products and Standards for Caltrans confirming the inclusion of McCain on their Qualified Products List (QPL). The 332L cabinet meets the 2009 Caltrans Transportation Electrical Equipment Specifications (TEES) making this cabinet the official enhanced version of the current 332. The 332L cabinet design was tailored to be an eco-friendly, energy-efficient cabinet that saves costs and energy consumption by using a high-efficiency power supply. “We are elated to be expanding our current cabinet portfolio to incorporate the Caltrans energy-efficient cabinet, 332L.” said Reza Roozitalab, Engineering Applications Manager, P.E., at McCain. “As an organization, we understand the impact and importance of our carbon footprint and we welcome the opportunity to add another eco-friendly cabinet to our existing line of green products.” Several new features incorporated in the 332L cabinet enhance its overall functionality including: replacing the Mercury Contractor with a Solid State Relay, relocating the main circuit breaker on the service panel next to the utility service, adding a line voltage transient suppressor at the service panel to provide conditioned power for the controller unit and input files, and adding a drawer to the rack to store documents and support a laptop. The most substantial change in the 332L cabinet is the reduction of electricity used per cabinet. Based on current research, the cabinet saves on average 267kWh of electricity per cabinet, per year. The cabinet power supply has been totally redesigned for high efficiency operation. Additional energy savings can result from the use of LED signals rather than incandescent signals, though this cabinet is powerful enough to run both types of intersection displays.
