According to the Morgan Hill Times, officials in Morgan Hill, California, are currently working on a traffic signal synchronization project that will coordinate traffic signal times along Cochrane Road in Morgan Hill in an effort to reduce drive times for commuters along the busy road. "The plans will involve the coordination of the traffic signals in two segments of Cochrane Road: Monterey Road to Butterfield Boulevard and Sutter Boulevard to DePaul Drive," senior civil engineer Scott Creer told the source. "The coordination plans should be completed and ready for implementation by early summer." Creer went on to note that the project is currently stalled because of a funding problem created by the California Supreme Court's decision to dissolve the Morgan Hill Redevelopment Agency, which had initially funded the project. Despite the setback, Creer said he remains confident that the signal synchronization project will be completed on schedule. Funding for projects like traffic signal synchronization is often provided by state and federal programs designed to improve air quality and reduce emissions. One of the primary causes of carbon emissions is idling vehicles, and any traffic improvement project that minimizes the time motorists idle at red lights helps to reduce emissions. |
