IPI releases report on sustainable parking solutions
Friday, 20 January 2012 17:33

The International Parking Institute recently released its Framework on Sustainability in Parking Design, Management and Operations, a report that outlined a number of action points the IPI believes will help businesses and organizations optimize their parking structures to be more efficient and eco-friendly.

Many parking solutions are designed to direct drivers to open areas, avoiding the problem of motorists aimlessly meandering through different levels of parking garages and areas of parking lots in search of a space. Some systems can even identify the exact number of open spaces in a given area and direct drivers appropriately.

The IPI notes that in addition to parking solutions like these, many engineers are exploring other sustainable alternatives, including solar power, more energy efficient lighting and sustainable waste management.

While there are many benefits to sustainable practices in any structure, the IPI framework notes the importance of education and diligent research in sustainable practices. One of the main goals of the IPI Framework is to establish a communal system in which suppliers, designers and engineers can work together to determine how best to make use of sustainable materials and practices when constructing a parking garage.
