General:
There have been a lot of rumors stating that the 170
Product Line will become obsolete, because the 6802 processor
is no longer in production. We want to assure you that this
is not the case. When we were first informed that the 6802
would be discontinued, we started an immediate engineering
effort to find a replacement processor and have the necessary
modifications made to the board to utilize the new one.
This effort resulted in the selection of the 68HC11F1 MPU
as the new processor. It is widely used in the electronics
industry and is available from at least 3 manufacturers.
We have successfully tested a prototype and have initiated
a build cycle. We have also purchased about 4000 6802s
to assure that therewould be no interruption in production
and to take care of any warranty and repair requirements
in future years.
