Happy Holidays

star

Dear McCain Family and Friends,

What a year it has been for Team McCain! Our growing family celebrated so much this year. As we look back on 2018, we want to thank each and every one of you – our customers, colleagues, partners, family, and friends – without whom our achievements and success would not be possible.

McCain’s star child, the ATC cabinet, made quite a splash this year. The revolutionary cabinet extended its footprint to more than 800 and was adopted by two noteworthy DOTs – Los Angeles and San Francisco – the 2nd and 13th largest cities in Distributor-Meeting_Imagethe nation. Slated to deploy upwards of 1,500 ATC cabinets, Los Angeles will be the largest ATC deployment worldwide. In their efforts to create a smarter, more mobile city, San Francisco also signed on to ATC, showcasing that ATC technology offers equal benefits to NEMA users as well. We are so proud of all the ATC cabinet has accomplished and are anticipating another outstanding year ahead!

Not to be outdone by the #1 ATC cabinet in the industry, our extended family of signs got out and about as well. Our Variable Speed Limit Signs (VSLS) flew to Pennsylvania to take part in a 50-mile smart corridor initiative. Powered by SWARCO, VSLS adjust posted speed limits based on real-time traffic, roadway, and/or weather conditions to decrease congestion and reduce crashes. And, while it’s too early to say, we have some exciting news in the works for our Variable Message Signs (VMS) too.

In 2018, our cloud-capable Transparity® Traffic Management System took the trip of a lifetime to Maui along with the FLeX Controller and Omni eX Software. ITSA_NathanThere, Transparity TMS will provide real-time traffic data and better tools to traffic engineers, allowing them to view, study, and modify traffic patterns and signal timing to reduce congestion. This is the system’s westernmost deployment, but who knows what the future will hold.

The millennial of the family hit the road showcasing how real-time traffic signal timing and roadway warnings can be leveraged by connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) to improve safety and optimize traffic flow. Our CAV-ready solutions stepped into the limelight at the largest electronics show on the west coast, CES, and Mobile World Congress with Qualcomm Technologies. They participated in the SPaT challenge and demos showing how safety messages displayed on overhead VMS or parking availability posted on citywide wayfinding signs, can be utilized in CAV applications.

It’s not just our products that made waves in 2018. Team McCain had many new additions to its family – now more than 600 strong. A growing team with mounting initiatives needs ITS-Division_Californiasolid leadership, so we also welcomed a former USDOT CAV leader to direct the company’s CAV efforts and a former Caltrans Senior Manager to head its ITS Solutions group. We are sure to hear exciting things from them and their teams as 2019 unfolds.

Yes, it’s been a wonderful year for the McCain family and 2019 is looking up too as the SWARCO side of the family will be celebrating their 50th anniversary.

From the entire McCain and SWARCO family, we wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday season. We look forward to working with you more in the new year and continuing to drive the industry forward.

Happy Holidays!
