Adaptive signal upgrades from SWARCO McCain boost travel times along Santee‘s
busiest corridor

Santee, CA

Overview

Santee reduced persistent congestion on Mission Gorge Road by deploying MyCity Adaptive and upgraded controllers, resulting in verified improvements in travel times across both directions throughout the day.

Location

Santee is a city in San Diego County located along the San Diego River. It has a population of about sixty thousand and covers nearly sixteen and a half square miles. Its infrastructure supports daily travel and commercial activity, but the area frequently experiences slowdowns, crashes, and heavy traffic.

The Challenge

The City of Santee needed to improve travel times along Mission Gorge Road, which is the primary East-West Corridor through Santee‘s commercial district. Heavy congestion throughout the day made efficient travel difficult. They needed a system capable of modifying signal timing automatically and reacting to real time traffic conditions.

Solution

Santee deployed MyCity Adaptive at nine intersections along Mission Gorge Road and upgraded its infrastructure with 2070LX controllers operating on Omni eX® Intersection Control Software. Together, these enhancements delivered the real-time adaptive control needed to adjust signal timing automatically in response to actual traffic conditions.

The Results

The city compared travel times before and after the implementation of MyCity Adaptive. The adaptive signal upgrades on Mission Gorge Road produced consistent and measurable improvements in both directions. Westbound traffic saw modest improvements in the morning that grew stronger through the day, reaching a substantial boost in the evening. Eastbound travel showed even larger increases, with strong improvements in both the morning and later evening peaks. Overall, the data confirms that the project delivered meaningful reductions in delay across the corridor.
